Byron Golf Game

By Glen Wicks

On October 2nd, there was a lengthy golf tournament that took place at PrairieView Golf Club near Byron. From 12:00 p.m. to 5 p.m., 13 schools competed in this tournament to see if they could claim first place. If they could not reach first place, another goal they had in mind was to land a spot in the Top Four Teams column on the overall scoreboard.

Certain golfers played in groups, while other golfers chose to play individually in the competition. Sauk valley golfers Jacob Rude, Grant Wasson, Jalen Bickett, Brayden Schulz, and Tyler Fauble played together. Sauk valley golfer Lucas Ely chose to play individually.

After an exhausting tournament, Illinois Valley College was the one that took first place at the end with 314 points. Bryant and Stratton came in second place with 315, Blackhawk came in third with 320, and Carl Sandburg came in fourth with 333. Sauk Valley ended up taking the fifth place spot in the tournament with 335 points.

Sauk Valley golf coach CJ Wade stated that he thought the outcome for his team was acceptable and that he would have his players work on putting to shoot lower scores in the future.

“ I’d say we were pretty prepared for this game today,” commented Wade. “The pressure of trying to win definitely gets to the players, so it’s important to stay in the game and not worry about the outcome until after the game’s over.” “You just have to keep your level of confidence up and your worries down,” adds Wade.

The Sauk Valley golf team tried their best that Friday, and will continue to do their best in future games.
